U23s Preview: Dickman spurred on

Elliott Dickman has called for more of the same as he looks to build on Wednesday’s European cup showing against Athletic Club.

Sunderland under-23s head to London this evening looking for some capital gains as they resume their domestic campaign at Tottenham Hotspur (kick-off 7pm at the Lamex Stadium, Stevenage).

The young Black Cats produced a fine display last time out to advance to the semi-finals of the Premier League International Cup, courtesy of goals from Ethan Robson and Elliot Embleton.

And now Dickman is keen for his players to produce another well-oiled display when he takes the Lads south for this evening’s fixture.

“It would be great if we could perform like we did last week again,” he said.

“After the start of the game, which wasn’t great, we finished the match really well.

“We were pleased with the result and within that there was some good bits of play so the kind of momentum we gained from that can hopefully continue against Tottenham.

“It’s going to be a tough game, though, we know that but there are plenty of those in the league we are in,” he continued.

“We have to be ready and we have to make sure we give a good account of ourselves but at the same time we have got a certain style and a certain way we want to play.

“It’s important we remember that because we want to make sure we do that while at the same time making it tough for Tottenham.”
