At the SoL this Sunday: Under-23s entertain Liverpool

Sunderland under-23s are in Stadium of Light action this Sunday as Liverpool come to town in the Premier League 2 (KO 12noon).

The young Black Cats are looking for back-to-back wins after blowing away Hull City last time out, when Andy Nelson was on target and Rees Greenwood struck a brace.

On Sunday, Liverpool on Wearside as PL2 leaders but they do so on the back of successive defeats in cup competition.

And head coach Elliott Dickman stated his side will have to be at the races to overcome the Reds.

“They’re a strong side with some very, very good players and they’ve had a strong start to the season.

“It will be a difficult game but our players are in a good place and we’ve trained well, so hopefully we can build on the back of our last performance which was a very good one.”

He continued: “If we show the same togetherness, with a little more quality in the final third, it’ll be a very good game.

“It’s always good to play at the stadium and give the players that experience, and even though it won’t be full it’s the first-team pitch and it adds a different pressure.

“The Lads have got to handle that and be ready."
