Premier League 2: Molyneux pleased with Gunners scalp

Super-sub Luke Molyneux has praised the endeavour of his team-mates to come from behind to defeat Arsenal on Saturday.

The speedy winger entered the fray with eight minutes left, replacing first-team figure Lynden Gooch who had cancelled out Donyell Malen’s opener for the Gunners.

Gooch’s drilled strike with 68 minutes played saw the pendulum swing in the Black Cats’ favour, and Elliott Dickman’s tactical foresight to bring on Molyneux as the game became stretched paid dividends.

Ethan Robson’s lengthy clearance saw Molyneux breezed past the Gunners defender and then arrow his strike beyond a helpless Hugo Keto.

Speaking post-match Molyneux was left delighted to make the impact he did.

“It was great to come on and score as soon as I did,” he beamed.

“I wasn’t really expecting to have such a big impact but I know when I get into those kind of areas I need to at least hit the target, so it was nice to see that one go in.

“It is a win that secures our place in the Premier League 2 for another season so we are pleased to get it.

“It’s also our first win in the league for a long time,” he continued.

“The lads have dug deep, come from behind and earned a big three points.”
