Half-time v West Ham: U12s to show off national trophy on Saturday

Sunderland’s under-12s are set for a special Easter treat this Saturday following their national feat.

The young Black Cats will go pitchside at the Stadium of Light at half-time in Sunderland’s Premier League fixture against West Ham to show off their National Futsal Trophy.

Stuart Brightwell’s young guns overcame challenging competition to lift the award in February, finishing second in their group before defeating West Ham 6-0 in their semi-final.

That saw the Lads face Chelsea in the final, however, Brightwell’s side made light work of their opponents and brushed them aside to seal an emphatic 8-2 victory in Birmingham.

And to celebration the momentous accolade, Brightwell and his side will go pitchside Stadium of Light to celebrate their fine achievement this Easter weekend.

“We’re very proud of the boys because it is a testimony to their efforts,” Brightwell smiled.

“For the lads to be able to show their award off to fans on Saturday will be an unbelievable moment because it caps off a strong season for the under-12s.

“The boys started very brightly in the final against Chelsea and within 10 minutes we were 5-0 up.

“We really did not see a reaction from Chelsea and our boys were ruthless throughout and went on to win the game 8-2.

“There were a lot of big teams at the National Fustal event – Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, West Ham United – so to win it is a fine achievement.

“Hopefully seeing the fans cheer them on will give the Lads an extra boost and a taste for further success in a Sunderland shirt in the future.”
