Last time out: Reading U23 3-6 Everton U23

Reading under-23s surrendered a two-goal lead as Everton maintained their stay at the summit of the Premier League 2 table.

Andrija Novakovich scored a brace to put the Royals in firm control early on before Oumar Niasse fired a 21-minute hat-trick to turn the fixture on its head at the midway interval.

Everton returned in the second period and struck as further three times as Kieran Dowell, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Liam Walsh chalked up goals.

Thomas McIntyre’s headed a late consolation as the Royals suffered their fourth league defeat of the campaign.

Spotlight – Reading U23 coach: Martin Kuhl

Born in 1965, Martin Kuhl made 474 appearances in the Football league for Birmingham, Portsmouth and Bristol City. With bags of experiences during his playing careers, Kuhl turned to coaching and enjoyed spells at Aldershot Town and Wycombe Wanderers. Since then Kuhl has taken charge of the Royals’ under-16s and under-18s teams before stepping up to take control of the development squad ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

Key battle: Michael Ledger v Dominic Samuel

Still searching for his first goal of the season, Dominic Samuel could make his fourth Premier League 2 appearance this Sunday as he looks to get off the mark this campaign. With successful loan spells at Coventry City and Gillingham, which saw him score a combine total of 13 goals in 36 appearances, there’s no doubting Samuel’s pedigree. Having received backing from Royals manager Jaap Stam, the 22-year-old will be itching to find the net.
