Plenty to prove: Ledger eyes fifth straight win

Michael Ledger believes Sunderland under-23s still have plenty to prove as they target three points against Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

Andy Welsh’s side have enjoyed a fine month of action and have recorded four straight wins to banish their slight dip in form over October.

The young Black Cats turned their Checkatrade Trophy fixture on its head as a late comeback saw them come from behind to defeat Notts County at the start of the month and progress to the knockout stages.

That was then followed by a narrow win against Blackburn Rovers before two victories in just four days against Benfica and Manchester United saw the Lads assert their class.

With another solid week of training under their belts ahead of tonight’s Premier League 2 fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, Ledger has hailed his team-mates and admitted they still have plenty to prove.

“We have turned a corner as we always thought we would,” he said. “We have a great set of lads and the victories we have had in recent weeks have been brilliant.

“Beating Benfica, Manchester United and Notts County show how much quality we have in our team.

“We need to keep pushing on against Tottenham now because it’s another league game and one we are looking to win.”

He continued: “We need to keep winning, we have got some big games coming up before Christmas and it’s important to keep doing what we are doing.”
