Bobby Gurney remains Sunderland’s all-time top goalscorer having netted 228 times for the club.

He scored Sunderland’s first goal at Wembley in the 1937 FA Cup final victory over Preston and left Wearside as a true Sunderland legend.

Born in Silksworth, Gurney represented Sunderland for 22 years and finished as the club’s top scorer for eight consecutive seasons during the 1930s.
