A lay preacher who refused to play on any religious day, Arthur Bridgett was a goalscoring centurion for Sunderland at the beginning of the century, scoring 116 in total.

Signed in 1902 from Stoke, Bridgett scored in nine consecutive games for the Lads, spanning across the end of the 1906-07 season and the start of the following campaign.

Bridgett also featured for England making 11 appearances and scoring three goals, before turning his hand to management with North Shields and South Shields.
