Sunderland’s return to the top flight ended in 1970 and Bob Stokoe was soon installed as manager.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Stokoe guided the Lads to an unprecedented success in 1973 as Division Two Black Cats overcame the mighty Leeds United to lift their second FA Cup, with promotion was secured in 1976.

The 80s saw managers come and go as the Black Cats bounced up and down the footballing pyramid, with Peter Reid plotting future success as the club bid farewell to Roker Park after 99 years.
