Club Treasures: 1966 World Cup blazer

When the World Cup came to England in 1966, Sunderland chairman Syd Collings was at the forefront.

It was Collings who presented the England and West Germany teams to Queen Elizabeth II before the final at Wembley, and on display at the Stadium of Light, is his World Cup blazer.

The dark blue blazer features an embroidered picture of the original World Cup, the Jules Rimet Trophy, on the breast pocket.

If you come to see the jacket on display and look carefully you’ll see that each of the buttons also contains an image of the Jules Rimet Trophy.

The jacket is pictured here along with several other 1966 World Cup items.

Sunderland staged four games during the tournament, including a quarter-final.
