Club Treasures: 1937 FA Cup medal

Playing in the era before substitutes, Alex ‘Sandy’ McNab made just 113 appearances for Sunderland between 1932 and ’38.

Unfortunately for him, he was largely kept out of the team by captain Alex Hastings.

He played just 13 times as the league title was won in 1936 and 18 times in the league in the cup winning season of 1936-37.

However, in the cup he managed to play in eight of the nine games, including the final, won 3-1 against Preston North End.

And a week after being a Wembley winner, Sandy won his first cap for Scotland.
