David Moyes: 23 July 2016 - 22 May 2017

David Moyes replaced Sam Allardyce as Sunderland manager on 23 July 2016.

The move to Wearside marked Moyes' Premier League comeback, with the Scot returning to English football two years after being sacked by Manchester United.

His first Premier League win came in November as Jermain Defoe and Victor Anichebe led the way in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth, but five months later the Cherries were the victors as defeat at the Stadium of Light comdemned Sunderland to relegation.

On 22 May 2017, Moyes resigned and the search for a new manager began.
