THE MANAGERS: Sam Allardyce

Sam Allardyce: 9 October 2015 - 22 July 2016

Big Sam came to Wearside with a big reputation and he didn't disappoint.

Like his predecessors, Allardyce led Sunderland to victory over Newcastle United in his second game in charge to cap off an astounding six-in-a-row against the Tynesiders.

In January Big Sam looked to continue Sunderland’s revival by bringing in new faces with Lamine Kone, Wahbi Khazri and Jan Kirchhoff arriving, with the latter destined to become the first German to win the Premier League’s Player of the Month award since Jurgen Klinsmann.

Entering in the bottom three, Sunderland recorded vital back-to-back victories against Chelsea and Everton in the space of five days to ensure survival, scoring three on both occasions.

Allardyce was appointed as England manager on 22 July 2016 and was succeeded by former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes a day later.
