Report: Shildon 2-2 Sunderland U23

Sunderland under-23s surrendered a two-goal lead in their second pre-season friendly last night.

Shildon found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break after goals from Jack Diamond and Alex Storey put the young Black Cats in full control of the game.

But a valiant second-half comeback saw the lads’ lead gobbled up as Shildon came back to claim a draw.

On Saturday, Elliott Dickman’s young guns got their campaign off to a flying start as they defeated Silksworth CW at the Academy of Light. Fast forward four days and there was a new face in the ranks as former Liverpool youngster Jordan Hunter featured on the bench after securing his Wearside switch on Monday.

Sunderland under-23s picked up where they left off on the weekend, swiftly going in front through Diamond before Storey doubled their advantage before half-time.

Billy Greulich-Smith pulled one back shortly after the midway interval before he later converted a penalty to seal the comeback.

Next up for Sunderland under-23s is a visit to Sunderland RCA next Thursday.

Sunderland U23 starting XI: Trialist, Gamble, Kokolo, Bale, Tasylor, Storey, Diamond, Connolly, Shields, Hackett, Kimpioka.

Subs: Young, Patterson, Dunne, Evans, Connelly, Hunter, Brotherton.
