Vacancy: HR Advisor

Sunderland AFC is recruiting for a HR Advisor to join our People Team. On the success of promotion into the Championship last season, this is an exciting time to join the Club as we continue our change programme and ensure we truly are a people focused Club.

Reporting to the Head of HR the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for proactive coaching, advising and upskilling management population on key HR processes, alongside the delivery of the people strategy and key improvement projects.

Responsibilities for the role include:

  • First point of contact for providing competent HR advice and support to the management population across all domains where required, with a commercial and pragmatic approach in line with business practice and legal considerations
  • Provide coaching and support to managers to maximise potential
  • Develop and utilise accurate MI to identify trends and propose solutions in partnership with HoHR
  • Enabling business delivery of process timelines as defined within the relevant policies
  • Providing support to HoHR with the delivery of the people strategy and initiatives and project improvement work
  • Attendance and or coaching at complex employee relation meetings where required, under the advice of HoHR when considerable risk is deemed with specific employee relations cases. 
  • Actioning and updating company policy and procedures in liaison with the HoHR when new legislation is introduced. Keeping all Management toolkits up to date and relevant.
  • Maintaining accurate recorded advice on company systems, ensuring all relevant cases are logged and advising HoHR on any patterns or matters of concern
  • Reviewing and drafting of documentation connected to employee relations matters, including sanction letters, invite and suspension letters in line with company policy
  • Ownership of the end-to-end occupational health (OH) process working proactively with management population and the OH provider. Liaison and relationship building with company OH providers.
  • Supporting HoHR with compiling Employment Tribunal related documentation, assessment of business risk and maintain MI.
  • Work closely with the HoHR and HoDs to ensure an appropriate labour model and resourcing strategies are in place to deliver business labour requirements
  • Keeping up to date on employment law and communicating to wider business

  • Delivery of upskilling solutions where required to management population

The position is full time (40 hours per week), with working hours being flexible around business demands and may include some evening and weekend work as required, including the need to work occasionally at home matches and special events. You will be expected to undertake any specific training or Continued Professional Development to maintain your up-to-date knowledge and qualifications.
