Club continues to share expertise in South Africa.

SAFC coaches have been visiting South Africa this week as the club continues to share its expertise and knowledge through community project.

SAFC’s head of international football development, Graham Robinson and Michael Havelock from the Foundation of Light have been visiting the country this past week delivering a number of community projects.

This week the two coaches visited Parktown Boys’ High School in Johannesburg, where they led coaching clinics for over 180 local children in the area.

The coaching clinics led by the duo formed part of the school’s, Youth Managers and KPMG’s project to deliver footballing sessions to disadvantaged children from some of the local community’s most underprivileged schools.

The children took part in various sessions around technique and ability to improve their footballing skills which were well received by all the schools and children taking part.

Michael said: “Everybody starts somewhere and community football is the starting point for every player. We are glad to part of the young footballer’s development.”

The visit follows the club’s recent activities where Graham led on the Premier Skills initiative, delivering football courses and workshops to over 60 grassroots coaches in South Africa as part of the international programme organised by The British Council and the Premier League.

Graham said: “Through our many partnerships in Africa, we have a long-held commitment and reputation for investing in community and education programmes.

“We very much value the positive relationship we have with South Africa and aim to have a foothold in the local communities we are working in, achieving targets while enhancing and improving people’s lives.”

Sunderland AFC has established itself as one of the most recognised and respected Barclays Premier League clubs across Africa and through its many partnerships, relationships and grass root activities, African fans can truly see the impact SAFC is having on many people’s lives.
