70th birthday event for Jimmy Montgomery announced.
Sunderland AFC is to celebrate a landmark birthday of one of its most famous sons with a special tribute evening at the Stadium of Light.
1973 hero and Club Ambassador Jimmy Montgomery will turn 70 in October and the club is to recognise the milestone with a ‘This Is Your Life’ style extravaganza.
The Black Tie Gala Dinner, honouring of one of the club's most loved former players, will include tributes to Jimmy from a host of sporting greats and a charity auction with a host of fantastic prizes.
The event takes place at the Stadium of Light on Friday 1st November, with all proceeds from the evening going to support the club’s partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
SAFC Commercial Director Gary Hutchinson said: “Every Sunderland fan, whether young or old, knows the story of Jimmy’s double save in the 1973 FA Cup Final.
"Holding the club record for the most number of appearances, Jim is a huge part of our history and is loved by everyone. We’re delighted to be able to honour him in this way – and raise funds for a very worthwhile cause."
Tickets for the evening are priced at £75 and include a three course dinner with coffee, a pre-event reception in Quinn’s Sports Bar and a commemorative programme.
Sponsorship packages are also available; an associate package which includes a table for 12, a drinks reception, photo opportunities and stadium tour with Jimmy, alongside logo acknowledgements throughout the evening and on the club’s official website, starts at just £2,225.
A headline sponsorship package for this marquee event includes; a boardroom champagne reception, table for 12, photograph opportunities, a four-course meal, a minute of LED advertising during a Barclays Premier League game during the 2013-14 season, logo opportunities in the evening’s programme and on the big screens plus a stadium tour with lunch and math day hospitality with Jimmy for a game during the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season.
