African partners to visit in August.
Sunderland AFC’s African football partners Asante Kotoko will bring an under-18 side to Wearside in August for a tournament with multiple north-east clubs.
The Black Cats have invited Asante Kotoko as well as South African side Bidvest Wits to take on Sunderland's youngsters at the Academy of Light.
Newcastle United and Middlesbrough are also likely to bring young sides to Wearside as the club’s links to Africa continue to grow.
Kotoko’s International Relations Manager, Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, says the Ghanaians are already preparing for their exciting trip to the UK.
“Sunderland have invited our under-18 team over for some friendly games and some other activities,” Baah-Nuakoh told MTNFootball.com.
“The team is expected to be in England from August 1st – 10th and will be engaged in a series of lined up activities including playing friendly games against the youth teams of Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.
“Our under-18 team have already begun preparations towards this trip and I am sure in the coming days you will be hearing of some of the local friendly games they will be playing to get themselves in shape ahead of the trip.”
The invitation of Kotoko’s under-18 team forms part of a new chapter in the running partnership agreement between Sunderland and the Ghanaian Premier League champions.
