Ghanaian partners do the double

Kotoko win top-flight and FA Cup.

Asante Kotoko, SAFC’s Ghanaian club partner, have secured an historic first league and FA Cup double.

Having secured their third consecutive league title, winning the First Capital Plus Premier League, the Porcupines secured the MTN FA Cup with 2-1 extra time win over Inter Allies in Accra on Sunday.

Without the guidance of head coach Mas-ud Didi Dramani, who is with the Ghanaian national side for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Kotoko earned their first FA Cup in 13 years, putting the heartbreak of two final defeats in the last three years behind them.

After a Richard Mpong goal put the Porcupines ahead in the first eight minutes, they were pegged back in the second half, the game finishing 1-1 in regular time.

With just four minutes remaining in added time, striker Seidu Bancey sparked scenes of jubilation at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, when he prodded home from close range to win his side the trophy.

SAFC commercial director Gary Hutchinson said: “We’re absolutely delighted for the staff, players and supporters of Asante Kotoko; what they’ve achieved is really fantastic and it’s great to see their hard work paying off.

“As a hugely valued club partner we look forward to congratulating them on more success in the future.”
