Jordan Laidler

Jordan Laidler

Jordan is a striker-turned-midfielder who has emerged from Sunderland’s Academy system.

He was born in North Shields and featured for the club’s youth team while still at school before joining as a full-time apprentice ahead of the 2010-11 season.

He scored 12 goals in 25 appearances in his first full season with the under-18s and added another eight strikes in 20 games in 2011-12.

Jordan had already featured in the reserves on 18 occasions prior to turning professional in summer 2012.

He featured more in a midfield role during the 2012-13 season, often dropping deep.

His 23 appearances were only matched by David Ferguson as Laidler bagged four goals during the campaign.

Jordan was rewarded with a call-up to the first team squad by head coach Paolo Di Canio in April 2013 and was named on the bench for the first time for the defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
