David Ferguson

Boyhood Sunderland fan David Ferguson joined the Black Cats from Darlington in 2012 after progressing through the Quakers’ youth ranks.

David began to make a name for himself at the Northern Echo Arena after making six first-team appearances before the club folded.

He initially came to the Stadium of Light on trial and impressed enough to be handed a full professional contract.

Ferguson was ever-present for the development squad last season; his 23 appearances only matched by Jordan Laidler.

He scored his first goal for the under-21’s in September 2012 as the Black Cats drew 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur.

David was called up to the first-team squad, and was an unused substitute, for the final game of the 2012-13 season as Paolo Di Canio’s side lost 1-0 to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

The defender joined Boston United on loan in February 2014.
