Sunderland Association Football Club Current Players

David Ferguson

Boyhood Sunderland fan David Ferguson joined the Black Cats from Darlington in 2012 after progressing through the Quakers’ youth ranks.

David began to make a name for himself at the Northern Echo Arena after making six first-team appearances before the club folded.

He initially came to the Stadium of Light on trial and impressed enough to be handed a full professional contract.

David was ever-present for the development squad during the 2012-13 season; his 23 appearances only matched by Jordan Laidler.

He scored his first goal for the under-21’s in September 2012 as the Black Cats drew 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur.

David was called up to the first-team squad, and was an unused substitute, for the final game of the 2012-13 season as Paolo Di Canio’s side lost 1-0 to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

The defender joined Boston United on loan in February 2014, as well as featuring regularly for the club’s U21s during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
