Titus is a solid defender with vast experience at the top level having played first team football since the age of 17.

He is a centre-back who loves battling for the ball and is particularly strong in the air.

Titus began his career at his home-town club, Ipswich Town, making 62 appearances for the Tractor Boys as well as having a short loan spell at Colchester.

Ipswich legend Sir Bobby Robson paid around £5m to take Titus to Newcastle in July 2002 and he would spend almost five years on Tyneside, playing in excess of 150 games.

He then moved south to Wigan for three seasons, playing 104 times for the Latics and scoring five goals.

Titus’ performances for Wigan earned him both the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at the end of the 2008-09 season.

He joined Sunderland for an undisclosed fee in summer 2010 during the club’s pre-season trip to Portugal and made 24 appearances in his debut season plus eight in 2011-12.
