Modibo ended a seven-year spell at Lazio when he joined Sunderland in July 2013.
The defender – born in France but of Senegalese descent – is a powerful physical presence at the back and stands at 6'4”.
He progressed through the youth ranks at Italian side Pescara before Lazio signed the then 19-year-old for €300,000.
Modibo's strength and physical presence earned the promising defender three appearances in his debut season in Serie A as Lazio finished third and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.
Unfortunately, he he would miss the 2007-08 season after breaking his tibia in Lazio’s first game of the season against Torino.
The following campaign saw the defender score a first Lazio goal as the Rome side came back from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Udinese in Udine.
During the 2008-09 campaign, Modibo extended his stay with Lazio for a further five years as his side won the Coppa Italia for the first time in five seasons.
He played 28 games in all competitions in 2009-10 as Lazio finished 12th in Serie A and went out of the UEFA Europa League in a tough group stage.
Lazio improved during the 2010-11 campaign to finish fifth as the Frenchman made his 50th appearance for the club.
Modibo played more games than any other season in the 2011-12 campaign, playing 36 times and scoring once as Lazio finished fourth in Serie A as well as narrowly losing out to Atletico Madrid in the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League.
The defender made his 88th, and last, appearance for Lazio in the 2012-13 Coppa Italia final 16 as the Rome side won 4-1 on penalties against Siena.
Vladimir Petkovic’s side went on to win the tournament whilst also finishing seventh in Serie A.
Modibo made eight appearances for Sunderland in the opening stages of the 2013-14 campaign, before joining Fiorentina on loan for the remainder of the season in January 2014.
