Fabio officially joined Sunderland on a four-year-deal from Liverpool in August 2015.
The Italian striker is a fans' favourite at the Stadium of Light following a successful loan spell on Wearside, during the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League campaign, which saw him score 10 times.
The 24-year-old netted memorable goals in both derbies against Newcastle United – including the winner at the Stadium of Light in Gus Poyet’s first home game in charge.
The Italian also struck for Sunderland in the Capital One Cup Final defeat at Wembley to Manchester City in March 2014.
Despite defeat that day, Borini went on to grab important goals against Cardiff, West Brom as well as the winner at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea – inflicting Jose Mourinho’s first Barclays Premier League home defeat in 78 games - as Sunderland pulled off the ‘great escape'.
Borini started his career at Bologna before moving to Chelsea, Swansea, Parma, Roma and then Liverpool, where he was Brendan Rodgers’ first signing for £11m in July 2012.But now Fabio is delighted to be back on Wearside and he has committed himself to the club until July 2019.
