Italian international Fabio joined the Black Cats on loan from Liverpool on summer transfer deadline day.

Fabio began his youth career with Bologna, the club he supported as a boy, before joining Chelsea’s youth team in 2007.

The Bentivoglio-born youngster starred for the Blues’ reserve side, including five goals against West Bromwich Albion to lead his side to a 5-4 victory.

He made his debut for Chelsea in September 2009 as a late substitute for Nicolas Anelka in a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

After making eight appearances over the course of the 2009-10 season, Borini joined Swansea City, then in the Championship, on loan.

The youngster, who was recently voted into the UEFA U21 European championships team of the tournament after leading Italy to the final, scored six goals in 12 games at the Liberty Stadium under Brendan Rodgers before he made a permanent switch to Serie A side Parma.

Borini never made an appearance for Parma and, after two months of his stay with the club, he joined AS Roma.

He scored ten goals in 26 games in his sole season at the Stadio Olimpico before he come Rodgers’ first signing as Liverpool boss.

Borini scored on his Anfield debut in a 3-0 victory over FC Gomel in the UEFA Europa League shortly after joining.

He has been capped once at senior level by Italy as Jozy Altidore’s USA side beat Italy 1-0.

Fabio starred in Italy’s UEFA U21 Euro 2013 campaign as his winner in the semi-final against Netherlands set up a final with Spain, in which he scored a consolation goal as the Spaniards ran out 4-2 winners in Israel.
