Martin O’Neill bolstered his ranks with the capture of striker Danny Graham on the final day of the January 2013 transfer window..
Danny jumped at the chance to return to his native north east, admitting he is relishing the opportunity to work with Black Cats boss O’Neill.
The 27 year-old has scored goals at every level throughout his career and is chomping at the bit to add to his top-flight tally in a red and white shirt.
Danny started his professional career with Middlesbrough in 2003. His four years with the Teessiders were peppered with loan spells across the divisions, including Derby County, Leeds United, Blackpool and Carlisle United, before he finally sealed a permanent move to Brunton Park in 2007.
In 89 appearances for the Cumbrians Danny notched 29 goals, despite United’s desire to keep him at the club, Danny was offered the chance to move up to the Championship with Watford, a move that saw the striker’s goals per game ratio soar.
He made an immediate impact for the Hornets following his step-up when he scored on his debut against Doncaster Rovers. His rich vein of form in front of goal for the Hornets saw him become their top scorer, amassing 14 goals in his maiden season.
Danny continued to terrorise Championship defences throughout the following campaign and equalled Watford’s record for most goals scored in consecutive games when he found the back of the net in seven successive games.
After bagging 24 goals he was once again top scorer for his club and the league, resulting in him being named in the Championship’s team of the season. As you would expect that feat put clubs throughout the country on red alert as interest in the hitman continued to grow.
After fending off a bid from QPR, Watford conceded defeat and let Danny join newly-promoted Swansea City for £3.5 million ahead of the 2011-12 season.
He repaid the faith manager Brendan Rodgers showed in him as he continued his impressive scoring record with City.
After grabbing his first goal against Stoke City he scored in the following three games. Danny has also grabbed the winning goals for the Swans in victories over Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
During his time in South Wales, he made 62 appearances and scored 21 goals and a one for all stats fans out there, Swansea only ever lost two games that the striker scored in.
