Craig is an attacking midfielder who is known for scoring spectacular goals.
He often operates in the centre of the field but has also played at right-back under Martin O’Neill at both Aston Villa and Sunderland.
He isn’t afraid to shoot from distance and occasionally features on the right wing when needed.
Craig came through the youth system at Villa, where his brother Gary still plays. He played 80 games for the club, scoring six goals, and took part in a UEFA Cup campaign under O’Neill.
He then scored 11 goals in one and a half seasons at Birmingham having moved across the Second City for £3m in January 2010.
Ten of those came in 2010-11, when Craig finished the season as Birmingham’s top scorer and played in the same team as Seb Larsson.
Craig signed for Sunderland in June 2011 for an undisclosed fee.
He didn’t feature regularly at first but played some of his best football under Martin O’Neill, finishing the 2011-12 season with 37 games under his belt.
The midfielder scored three goals, including a cracker of a free-kick against Wigan and a long-range lob at home to Swansea. Both were nominated for the club’s goal of the season award.
