SAFC Foundation aims to:

• Increase access and participation in positive activity
• Inspire young people to achieve and raise aspirations now and in future generations
• Contribute to safe, healthy and regenerated communities
• Be an integral and imbedded part of the local community

We do this using two distinct departments:

Education
Our education department works with primary and secondary school children, late teens and adults. By using the context of football we can bring subjects to life for pupils helping increase enthusiasm and motivation within the classroom. We run a range of programmes designed to help youngsters make healthy choices in life covering topics such as substance misuse, anger management, bullying and healthy eating. Our Kickz programme has helped reduce youth anti-social behaviour by up to 80% in some areas. Finally, our Lifelong Learning team work with families helping build bonds, improve communication and parenting skills and knowledge as well as helping unemployed adults back into work. At present SAFC Foundation operate 15 distinct Education programmes.

Football Development
Despite the title this department is responsible for a broad range of sports coaching programmes within the area working with young people who are just starting in sport through to those who excel and are passed into the Sunderland AFC Academy system. Our sporting programmes run before school, in-school, after-school and on evenings and weekends. We also run some of the most innovative disability sports coaching in the region and were the first football foundation in the North to offer Downs Syndrome coaching.
