Ji Dong-won sealed a dream move to Sunderland when Steve Bruce made the striker his second confirmed signing of the 2011-12 summer transfer window.

The South Korean international, who signed a three-year deal on Wearside, has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence.

Beginning his career with Gwangyang Jecheol High School, Ji had a brief spell with Reading in 2007-08 but didn't make a first-team appearance.

He returned to Gwangyang and quickly earned a move to K-League side Chunnam Dragons, for whom he scored 13 goals in 29 games during the 2010 season (Korean leagues run February-December).

Ji made 15 appearances for the Dragons during the current K-League season, scoring three times.

But it's at international level where the player, who was the Korean FA Cup's top scorer in 2010, really rose to prominence.

He has impressed during the early stages of his international career and is leading a wave of new and exciting talent pulling on the red of the national side.

Dong-won scored four goals in six games at the 2011 Asian Cup - a return which helped catch Steve Bruce's eye and seal a move to Wearside.
