SAFC Women: International round-up

Six Sunderland Women players recently represented their respective countries during the international break.

Katie Kitching featured in both of New Zealand’s friendlies against Thailand, coming on as a substitute in the first game, scoring two and assisting one goal.

The midfielder then played 90 minutes as the Ferns drew 0-0 with the same opponent in Christchurch.

Mary McAteer and Ellen Jones were both called up to Wales’ senior squad, with McAteer putting in a strong performance off the bench in the Red Dragons’ 4-0 win against Croatia at Wrexham’s ground, the STōK Cae Ras.

Wales made it a perfect start to the Euro qualifiers in League B, currently topping the group with Ukraine up next in May, before they play the three fixtures again in the summer.

Liz Ejupi came on as a substitute for Kosovo against Ukraine, before playing 90 minutes as the Kosovans took on McAteer and Jones’ Wales.

Katy Watson and Grace Ede both received valuable minutes for the England Under-19 squad, with Watson starting in the 2-0 victory over Switzerland, and Ede coming on in the second half against Portugal.

Both players then started in the 4-1 win over Italy in Lisbon, with Ede getting a full 90 minutes under her belt, and Watson playing the first half.

The young Lionesses achieved three wins to qualify for the U19 Euros in Lithuania in July, with the draw to be made on April 30.
