Women Preview: Lasses face Man City showdown

Sunderland Women turn their attentions away from the league and to Conti Cup action as they take on Manchester City Women at the Academy Stadium on Sunday (KO 2pm).

Team news

Barring some bouts of illness in the team, a clean bill of health is expected for Sunday’s game.

Longer-term absentees Keira Ramshaw, Faye Mullen, Emily Hutchinson and Abby Towers all miss out.

Opposition

Women’s Super League side Manchester City have 15 points from seven games in the top flight so far this season.

After losing their opening two games, the Sky Blues have won their last six in all competitions, scoring 20 and conceding two in that time.

City’s Khadija Shaw is the top scorer in the WSL so far with eight goals and two assists in their seven games.

The two sides last met in 2018 in the WSL, with Manchester City winning 3-0.
