Preview: Black Cats host table-topping Foxes

Sunderland return to the Stadium of Light tomorrow evening when they face table-topping Leicester City in the Sky Bet Championship.

The last time the sides faced off on Wearside, the Lads secured a 2-1 victory in 2016 thanks to goals from Jan Kirchhoff and Jermain Defoe.

Leicester City sit in first place in the Sky Bet Championship table with 78 points from 35 games. The Foxes have secured 25 wins, and three draws while suffering just seven defeats so far this season.

Enzo Maresca’s side have lost their last three league fixtures, surprising losses against Middlesbrough, Leeds United and most recently QPR leaving City in a nervy position going into the final quarter of the campaign.

The Foxes are the division's top goalscorers with 71 goals, and experienced forward Jamie Vardy leads the way with 12 strikes across all competitions – 10 of those coming in the Sky Bet Championship.

In terms of overall contributions, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is one to keep an eye on having provided 12 assists and notched 10 goals to date – the midfielder sits top of the Championship assist chart.

Defensively Leicester remain resolute at the back having conceded just 31 times, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process only Leeds United (28) offer a better defensive record.

Team News

Mike Dodds has confirmed Dan Ballard will return following the completion of his two-game suspension. The defender has missed Sunderland's last two matches after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season.

Corry Evans and Bradley Dack have both re-joined first-team training and are expected to play a part in the Under-21s’ upcoming fixtures as they build up their match sharpness.

Jack Clarke, Dennis Cirkin, Aji Alese, Niall Huggins and Patrick Roberts are all unavailable as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.
