Loan Watch: Diamond and youngsters feature

With the international break bringing a halt to a vast amount of domestic football, Jack Diamond was the only senior SAFC figure in club action over the weekend.

Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, Lincoln City were on the receiving end of a 2-1 loss away to Fleetwood Town.

Diamond, who notched up his 36th appearance for the club, was hurled into the action in the 36th minute of the game when Lewis Montsma was forced to make way.

The forward continues to gain valuable first-team experience in the third tier for a side who currently find themselves perched in 14th place in the table.

Michael Spellman was a second half substitute for Blyth Spartans in National League North on Saturday – which was also 2023’s first devoted Non-League Day.

Spartans, who sit 22nd in the table and are pushing for survival in the sixth tier, suffered a 2-0 loss to promotion chasing Chester on home soil. Spellman made his ninth appearance for the club in the process.

Ethan Kachosa made his Guiseley debut on Saturday, as he played the full game in a 1-0 defeat by Belper Town at Nethermoor Park. Fellow Lads loanee Adam Richardson completed a move to West Yorkshire alongside him, but is currently recovering from a short-term injury.

Connor Pye and Tom Chiabi both featured for Morpeth Town away at Stafford Rangers at the weekend, as the Northumbrians chalked up an excellently fought goalless draw and clean sheet. Pye played the full match in the West Midlands, whilst Chiabi entered the fray midway through the second half.

Harrison Bond continued his excellent season on loan at Shildon, as they beat Cleethorpes Town 3-1 at Dean Street. Former SAFC U21 man Vinnie Steels was among the scorers for the hosts as Bond played the full 90 minutes between the sticks.

Owen Robinson’s Lancaster City side came away 2-1 winners from a tricky test against Hyde United. Owen did not feature in the match, but has started his spell in Lancashire well with a successful penalty in his previous game.

Harry Gardiner was named on the bench by Kevin Phillips in South Shields’ 0-0 draw with Radcliffe at the 1stCloud Arena. Despite not getting on the pitch on the day, Gardiner may feature as the Mariners edge closer to the Northern Premier League title and promotion.

Nathan Newall and Tom Scott’s Darlington and Kettering Town sides faced off against one another down in Northamptonshire, resulting in a goalless draw. Neither of the duo featured in the contest, with Newall an unused substitute.
