SAFC vs Al-Shabab: Gooch relishing friendly match

After making a recent return to full training in Dubai, Lynden Gooch is relishing the opportunity to get some minutes in the tank in the heat in tomorrow’s friendly match.

The Lads take on Al-Shabab in a non-competitve outing as part of their warm weather training week before the resumption of the Championship schedule next weekend.

Gooch has been on the sidelines since the 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic after picking up a foot injury at the Stadium of Light but the club’s longest serving player has put in the hard yards to ensure a return for this week’s training schedule.

“It’s been good on a personal note to be back training with the team” he told SAFC.com. “I was out for five weeks so I’ve been trying to get back into the swing of things and get fit.

“I feel fit and it is all about getting touches on the ball. Just to get that rustiness away and get ready for next week when we get home.

“Get some minutes into the legs, which is obviously ideal for myself and everyone else who has had a week off. It’s going to be tough in this heat but it will be good in the long run for us.”

After a week of double sessions long with a friendly tie, Tony Mowbray’s squad will continue their preparations when they return to the UK next week ahead of their league game against Millwall.
