2022-23: Key dates for your football diary

Sunderland AFC’s league fixtures for the 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship season were revealed last Thursday, and here are some notable dates to save for the upcoming campaign.

The curtain raises on the season for the Lads on Sunday 31 July, taking on Coventry City at the Stadium of Light, followed by a first away trip of 2022-23 on Saturday 6 August at Ashton Gate against Bristol City.

Our trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday 3 September represents our shortest away journey of the season, with the reverse fixture on Wearside on Saturday 21 January.

A four-week break takes place ahead of the 2022 World Cup following the club’s trip to Birmingham City on Saturday 12 November, before returning to host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 10 December.

The festive period sees a home match with Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day, before two trips to Lancashire in three days to face Wigan Athletic (December 29) and Blackpool (New Year’s Day).

The final home fixture of 2022-23 will see the Lads host Watford on Saturday 29 April, before completing the season against Alex Neil’s former side Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday 6 May.
