Honeyman: I want to give it my all for this football club

George Honeyman is prepared to give everything to help Sunderland preserve their top-flight status for another season.

This weekend sees the Black Cats resume their Premier League campaign with three games in eight days following just two matches in March.

For Honeyman, though, Saturday’s match sees him return to Vicarage Road – the ground where he made his Premier League debut in the final game of last season.

A tenacious and tiresome 22-year-old, Honeyman has been a prominent feature in the first-team squad this season despite having to wait for his chance to shine.

Finally making his breakthrough in an Emirates FA Cup fixture at Burnley in January, Honeyman’s efforts at Turf Moor impressed David Moyes which led to him making his first senior start at the Hawthorns days later.

However, the Academy graduate has been made to settle for a place on the bench in recent months, leaving him hungry to once again stake his claim in Moyes’ thoughts.

“I just want to be on the pitch playing so that’s the most important thing,” he said.

“I enjoy playing as part of that three in midfield, but to be honest if the manager sticks me at left-back, I’d give it my all for this football club and I would love just being on the pitch.

“It means absolutely everything to me.

“I have been at this club since I was 11-years-old and just being in and around this team is all I have ever wanted and now for me I just want to get back in the team if I can and start as many games.”

He continued: “I’ll be doing everything I can to try and do that and help the team.”
