Cutting edge: We must take our chances - Gibson

Darron Gibson pulled no punches in the wake of Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Burnley, stating the Black Cats have to take their chances to earn the points their performances deserve.

A battling performance at the Stadium of Light ended with a point, but there was an air of disappointment post-match after the Lads spurned several key openings.

Burnley, meanwhile, wasted chances of their own with Ashley Barnes somehow firing wide before a Jordan Pickford wonder save denied Sam Vokes in the dying stages.

And speaking to safc.com, Gibson urged his team-mates to dust themselves down, take the positives and move forward.

“I think we did enough to win the game so we were disappointed.

“We had three or four clear-cut chances that we didn’t put away, but we’ve picked up a point and we have to move on.

“Keeping a clean sheet is a big positive we can take from the game,” continued Gibson.

“If we have to do it the ugly way it’s got to be done because there’s no point trying to play nice football and losing.

“We knew they were going to be organised and we knew what they would bring to the game, but we created chances, which is a positive, and if we keep creating them we’ll put them away.”
