Emirates FA Cup preview: Burnley v Sunderland

Sunderland return to Emirates FA Cup action on Tuesday night taking on Burnley with a place in the fourth round up for grabs (KO 7.45pm).

The Black Cats and Clarets battled out a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light just over a week ago, with James Tarkowski’s header, which clattered the post, the closest either side came to a winner.

It was a positive performance from David Moyes’ side who followed up a superb draw against Liverpool with a second SoL stalemate, but they will be wary of the Clarets’ sensational form at home.

Sean Dyche’s side have picked up 25 points at home in this season in the Premier League and they’re currently on a four-game winning streak at Turf Moor.

That included a resounding 4-1 success over Sunderland on New Year’s Eve, with the Black Cats floored as Andre Gray’s terrific treble sent the Clarets on their way to victory.

Ashley Barnes was also on the scoresheet netting from the penalty spot before Jermain Defoe found the net, and Sunderland will have a point to prove when they return to Lancashire.

The winners will face Bristol City or Fleetwood Town at home, with the Robins and the Trawlermen also facing a cup replay on Tuesday evening.

David Moyes remained coy over his team selection when asked if changes would be made at Turf Moor, and you can read the manager’s team news by clicking here.

However, they will once again be without Jordan Pickford, Lee Cattermole, Jan Kirchhoff, Paddy McNair, Lynden Gooch and Duncan Watmore.

Lamine Kone, Didier Ndong and Wahbi Khazri are also unavailable due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Burnley boss Dyche also gave very little away, but like Moyes he’s expected to name a strong side as both teams target a place in the next round.
