How's stat?: Opta guide to Saturday's action

Sunderland will strive to complete a Selhurst Park hat-trick when they travel to South London on Saturday.

The Black Cats have won on their last two trips to Crystal Palace, with Jordi Gomez and Steven Fletcher staring as the Lads sealed a 3-1 win in November 2014.

And as he so often is, Jermain Defoe was the hero last year as he punished a Scott Dann error before rounding the ‘keeper and sealing a big win.

Earlier this season the striker became the first Black Cat to score twice in a Premier League match and lose against the Eagles, but despite defeat he has netted four times in his last five PL games against the Londoners.

Palace have a striker of their own, though, and he returned to form on Tuesday evening as Bournemouth were beaten and Sam Allardyce picked up his first win.

That man, Christian Benteke, has been a thorn in Sunderland’s side throughout his time England, scoring more goals against the Black Cats than any other opponent (7).

Four of those have come in the Belgian’s last three games against the Lads, but they’ve all come for different teams – Aston Villa, Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

And Big Sam will need the big striker, having won just one of his last five games against club’s he’s previously managed in the Premier League.
