Playing for the crest: Honeyman keen to make fans proud

George Honeyman has called on his team-mates to give nothing less than 100% when they face Tottenham Hotspur on home soil next week.

Having been made to wait for his moment to shine, the 22-year-old worked tirelessly at Burnley and West Bromwich Albion last week as he seized his chance with both hands.

With no match this weekend, attentions remain fixed on Tuesday’s Premier League match at the Stadium of Light as Mauricio Pochettino brings his high flying Spurs side to Wearside.

For David Moyes though, he will be keen to rekindle his side’s strong home form – an issue which Honeyman has also talked about.

In the same breath, Honeyman also admitted he knows what’s required to get the red and white army singing.

“We have been really good at home this season,” he said.

“Obviously when we get the crowd behind us the stadium can be a real fortress.

“Hopefully if we show how hard we are working, how much effort we are putting in then that’s all the fans want to see.

“That’s all the fans want,” he continued.

“They want to see 11 lads out there giving their all for the badge and for the club.

“Having experienced it week in week out going to the Stadium of Light and growing up in the environment, that’s all they want.

“The fans love seeing the lads try, putting in some effort and while not everything is always going to come off, at least if they see a bit of hunger and desire from each and every one of us then they thrive on it and hopefully I can be a part of that.”
