African Cup of Nations: Holders Ivory Coast knocked out

Lamine Kone's Ivory Coast have been knocked out of the African Cup of Nations last night.

The news will come as a boost to David Moyes having been without the powerful defender since he limped off in the first-half at Burnley on New Year’s Eve.

Ivory Coast crashed out of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Morocco after substitute Rachid Alioui’s 64th minute wonder-strike proved to be the only goal in a cagey encounter.

The tournament holders weren’t without their chances though, Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha produced a tame effort from 12 yards before former Chelsea player Salomon Kalou saw his header rebound off the post.

As a result, The Elephants have been sent home from the tournament early after they failed to win any of their Group C matches – drawing their opening two.
