AFCON update: Crunch time for Khazri as Gabon crash out

Didier Ndong is on his way back to Wearside after Gabon crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations following a 0-0 draw with Cameroon.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starred in their opening two games scoring two goals, but the Borussia Dortmund star fired blanks on Sunday evening as Gabon became only the fourth hosts to exit the tournament at the group stage.

Ndong came close to a decisive goal in added time as the ball dropped perfectly to midfielder after Denis Bouanga struck the post, but ‘keeper Fabrice Ondoa produced a stunning save to deny the Sunderland midfielder.

Cameroon subsequently qualified for the quarter-finals as runners-up in Group A, with Burkina Faso topping the group on goal difference following a 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau.

Meanwhile, it’s crunch time for Wahbi Khazri and Tunisia who face Zimbabwe at the Stade d'Angondjé on Monday evening (KO 7pm).

Victory would cement their place in the quarter-finals as they currently have three points, but they could yet bow out if they fail to win with Algeria and Zimbabwe – both on one point – also in contention.

Senegal currently top the group on six points and have already qualified for the knockout stages.

Goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi is a fitness concern having been forced off during the win over Algeria, but Khazri is set to keep his place after returning to full fitness.

And the Sunderland man is priced at 13/2 (was 5/1) to open the scoring with Dafabet.

Tunisia to win and both teams to score also catches the eye with odds of 15/4 (was 3/1) available via the club’s partner.
