Team news: Catts named on the bench

Sunderland have named a strong side for today’s game against Watford at Vicarage Road (KO 3pm).

Jermain Defoe, fresh from his England heroics, leads the line as Adnan Januzaj and Fabio Borini are once again tasked with supplying the prolific frontman.

Captain John O’Shea and fellow central defender Lamine Kone both start – as expected – with Jason Denayer set to complete a back three, with Bryan Oviedo and Billy Jones also charged with protecting stopper Jordan Pickford.

Jack Rodwell and Darron Gibson complete the starting XI.

Lee Cattermole could make his return from injury after being named on the bench.

Sunderland: Pickford, O’Shea, Kone, Denayer, Jones, Oviedo, Gibson, Rodwell, Januzaj, Borini, Defoe.
Subs: Mannone, Djilobodji, Cattermole, Larsson, Khazri, Ndong, Manquillo.
