Preview: Pienaar on QPR

Above all else, Steven Pienaar is craving a Premier League win, but he's urged his team-mates to make the most of their EFL Cup tie at Queens Park Rangers.

The Black Cats’ trip to Loftus Road comes at a time when they are without a top-flight victory, but Pienaar believes a win over the Championship side can build confidence ahead of Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace.

Likewise, QPR will be hoping to bounce back from successive defeats and seal a place in the fourth-round draw which will take place following the capital clash.

And speaking to safc.com, Pienaar explained how victory at Loftus Road can provide a lift ahead of two games at the Stadium of Light.

“Cup games are always different from playing in the league,” said Pienaar. “If you asked me if I want a win in the league or the cup it would be the league, but it is an opportunity and we have to take it.

“We will keep going because the games are coming thick and fast, and if we can get a win it would give us a confidence boost ahead of the game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.”

He added: “Wednesday’s game can be the catalyst for us to push on and hopefully wins are just around the corner.”
