The first of many: Pickford targets more clean sheets

Jordan Pickford paid tribute to the red and white army following Sunderland’s 3-0 win over Hull City at the Stadium of Light.

The ‘keeper was inspirational as the Tigers were defeated on Wearside, producing a number of spectacular saves at critical times as Mike Phelan’s battled to little avail.

The win marked a first SoL success for Pickford who also ended his wait for a first clean sheet in the Premier League, and speaking post-match he was pleased as punch.

“It was a great result for us and to get the first clean sheet was special for me,” said the 22-year-old. “Now I’ve got to build on it and hopefully we can keep winning games.

“To get my first home win was also great and it’s good to see the fans buzzing again.”

He continued: “I think the blackout really helped us as a team because it really got the fans going and once again the support was great.

“The gaffer wanted us to get two wins from what were two crucial games and we’ve done that, but we will go again and work hard during the week.

“We will have a good game plan and hopefully we can take something at Liverpool.”
