History maker: Moyes hails Defoe milestone

David Moyes has hailed his match-winning trio and paid particular homage to Jermain Defoe for his landmark strike.

As the club’s Player of the Century Charlie Hurley returned to the Stadium of Light, Sunderland produced a king-like performance to secure back-to-back wins.

Defoe struck on 34 minutes as he skipped past a host of Hull players before firing home his 150th Premier League goal to become only the eighth player to amass that seismic haul.

While at the other end, Jordan Pickford continued to impress between the sticks as he produced two quick-fire stops that even club legend Jim Montgomery would've been proud of.

Victor Anichebe was his usual physical self and he rammed the ball home twice in the second period to put the game beyond doubt and seal a precious victory for the Lads.

Speaking to safc.com, Moyes lavished praise on Pickford and Anichebe but highlighted the milestone Defoe reached in order to help the Lads see off Hull City.

Victor deserves praise for his two goals and it was great to see Jermain get his 150th Premier League goal,” he said.

“You have to admire the fact he’s been able to score that many goals. He’s done really well throughout his career.

“Pickford has made some of the finest saves for us in the last few games and he’s been tremendous for us, we really needed him today, we did a lot of defending and he was great.”
