Mannone: Italian keen to get stuck in

Vito Mannone is hungry for more after tasting competitive action for the first time since August.

The Italian stopper completed 90 minutes as Sunderland came from a goal down to defeat Notts County in the Checkatrade Trophy last night at the Stadium of Light.

Josh Maja slotted the Black Cats level on 83 minutes to cancel out Adam Campbell's opener before Haydn Hollis turned the ball into his own net to ensure the Lads advanced to round two.

Speaking post-match, Mannone told safc.com he is happy to be back and is keen to help the first-team build on their positive result at Bournemouth prior to the international break.

“It feels great to complete 90 minutes and be back at the Stadium playing against a good team like Notts County,” he said.

“It’s a good challenge and a good result in the end. I am happy, I wanted to play one full game and help the team to get the result; it is a good boost for myself really.

“Hull City is now a massive game because we have had a tough start but it was great to get three points at Bournemouth.

“We have to look forward now to the next few challenges. We know it is going to be difficult because we are facing some tough teams but we definitely need the next three points.”
