Loan watch: Coates returns to winning ways

Seb Coates – Boavista 0-1 Sporting Lison

Seb Coates helped Sporting Lisbon return to winning ways as the Portugese side overcame Boavista.

The Uruguayan completed 90 minutes and kept a seventh clean sheet of the season as Bas Dost’s strike sealed three points at the Estadio do Bessa XXI.

Four days earlier, Coates starred for Sporting Lisbon as they suffered late heartbreak against Real Madrid for the second time this season.

Raphael Varane handed Madrid a first-half advantage but ten-man Sporting struck back through Adrien Silva with ten minutes remaining, only to see Zinedine Zidane’s side earn a late win as Karim Benzema netted three minutes from time.

The result leaves Sporting third in Group F and although their hopes of progression are over, they do remain in pole position to seal a place in the UEFA Europa League knockout stages.

Jeremain Lens – Rizespor 1-5 Fenerbahce

Jeremain Lens remained sidelined as Fenerbahce crushed Rizespor in the Turkish Superliga.

The home side took the lead but Fener quickly established their dominance, with Moussa Sow netting a first-half hat-trick before Aatif Chahechouhe and Ismail Koybasi struck in the second period.

As reported last week, Lens is expected to return to action in the next two weeks.

Adam Matthews – Reading 2-1 Bristol City

Adam Matthews was once again omitted from Bristol City’s matchday squad as the Robins fell to a 2-1 defeat at Reading.

The Royals scored two goals in six minutes to take control as Garath  McCleary and Roy Beerens were on target, with Gary O’Neill’s late struck only a consolation.

Matthews will line up for City’s under-23 side when they face Ipswich Town on Monday afternoon.

Will Buckley – Wolves 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday

Will Buckley came off the bench as Sheffield Wednesday sealed a 2-0 win at Wolves as the Owls moved up to seventh in the Championship table.

Fernando Forestieri scored his second goal in as many games to set up the win, with Kieran Lee also on target.
