How's stat?: Your Opta guide to Sunderland v Hull City

You'll no doubt be aware of the biggest stat heading into Saturday's game and you wouldn’t bet against it.

Should Jermain Defoe score, it would be the striker’s 150th Premier League goal.

Defoe would be the eighth player to reach the milestone and surpass Les Ferdinand (149) while drawing level with former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen (150).

With a total of 163, Robbie Fowler would be the next top-flight great in Defoe’s sights with Thierry Henry (175) and a place in the top five Premier League scorers of all time on the horizon.

The striker hasn’t scored in his last three games against Hull City but he’s tamed the Tigers in the past netting a hat-trick in a 5-1 win while playing for Tottenham Hotspur in August 2009.

And he isn’t the only Sunderland striker out to make his mark with Victor Anichebe vying to score in consecutive Premier League games for the second time in his career.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have played a league-high 55% of their passes in their own half this season, with Arsenal (66%) the only team to play a higher proportion in opposition territory than Sunderland (64%).

Mike Phelan’s side are susceptible from set pieces conceding on a league-high 10 occasions despite scoring 60% of their goals from similar situations at the opposite end.

The Tigers hold the edge in recent meetings at the Stadium of Light winning on their last two trips to the north east, but they haven’t won three successive away games against Sunderland since April 1972.
