Beekeeper: Honeyman relishing Laing test

George Honeyman is looking forward to going up against former Sunderland team-mate Louis Laing on Wednesday in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Black Cats welcome League Two side Notts County to the Stadium of Light tomorrow, kick-off 7:30pm, with high hopes of advancing into the next round.

With four points from their opening two matches, Robbie Stockdale’s side need to avoid defeat against Notts County if they are to progress to round two.

However, standing in their way is an experienced Magpies side which includes former Manchester United midfielder Alan Smith and one time Black Cats striker Jon Stead.

Speaking to safc.com, the Beekeeper admitted he is well aware of their experience and is excited about facing former team-mate Laing.

“Louis is a friend of mine and I played with him a lot at Sunderland,” he said.

“Louis is a very good player and it will be another great test for us to play against players like that.

“They are a good League Two side and they have got some really experienced players so we know it’s going to be an incredibly tough match.”

He continued: “We have had a couple of tough tests already but done really well to come through them so hopefully we can continue to work hard and get the result we need to go through to the next round.

“We have got to go out there and enjoy it, make the most of it and make sure we do our best to get the win.”
