Sunderland are heading to Anfield in a buoyant mood following back-to-back Premier League wins, according to talisman Jermain Defoe.
With AFC Bournemouth and Hull City dispatched in recent weeks, the Black Cats head to Merseyside in search of a third consecutive top-flight win.
It won’t be easy against a Liverpool side who have dazzled under Jurgen Klopp and currently sit second in the league.
But the 34-year-old striker was quick to remind that anything can happen in the Premier League.
“You can imagine the atmosphere in the changing room now,” said Defoe.
“We have back-to-back wins but we know going to Liverpool will be tough because of the way and intensity they play.”
He continued: “It will be difficult but we go into the game confident and in the Premier League anything can happen, so you can’t have a thought in your mind about who you’re playing against because it doesn’t matter.
“We will go there and be disciplined and I’m sure the manager will have a good game plan because of his experience.
“We’re looking forward to the game because it’s a big one.”
